The Niles City School District is pleased to share that it has received an overall 3 star rating from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) on its annual report card! Released by the department on September 15, 2026, the rating means the district meets state standards on the six rated components. Rated components include achievement, progress, gap closing, graduation, early literacy, and college/career/workforce/military readiness. Additional information about each component and how each building and the district was rated in them can be found below.
Superintendent Ann Marie Thigpen provided the following statement after the release of this year's report card:
"While our overall rating moved from 3.5 to 3 stars, the district as a whole continues to meet state standards. Report cards provide us with great insights, and we are focused on what the data is telling us, and most importantly, on the actions we are taking moving forward.
We continue to place a strong emphasis on early literacy, recognizing that strong reading skills are the foundation for success across all areas of learning. We are also strengthening our focus on college, career, workforce and military readiness so that every graduate is prepared for their next step.
We are confident in the work underway across our schools and remain committed to using data, collaboration, and targeted strategies to accelerate student achievement and ensure every student is prepared for success beyond graduation.
We will continue to examine the data carefully, identify the areas where our students need additional support, and work collaboratively with our teachers, staff, families, and community partners to make meaningful improvements. A report card is one measure of our progress, but it also allows us to reflect, respond, and improve. Our commitment remains unwavering: to provide every student with the foundation and opportunities needed to reach their full potential."
According to the ODEW website, the Report Cards are designed to give parents, communities, educators, and policymakers information about the performance of districts and schools — to celebrate achievement and success and identify areas for improvement.
Congratulations to our staff, students, and administrators on all of your hard work - we are proud of the effort and dedication you give every day!
