Religious Expression Days

Religious Expression Days

Niles City Schools recognizes the value that comes from participating in religious practices. Our goal is to ensure that all members of our district can observe important religious traditions without facing negative consequences.

Per Board Policy 5200, the district allows up to three Religious Expression Days per school year for students to observe religious holidays or participate in faith-based activities. No academic penalties will be imposed for students who use approved Religious Expression Days. Accommodations for missed classwork, exams, and other academic requirements will be given. Students will be permitted to participate in after-school programs, such as sporting events or extracurricular activities, on the same day an approved Religious Expression Day is used.

All Religious Expression Days must be delivered in the form of a written notice by a parent or guardian to the school district within 14 days of the start of the academic year or 14 days before enrollment.

Major Religious Holidays:

Niles City Schools follows the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s Non-Exhaustive List of Major Religious Holidays. This list includes many significant observances; however, some dates may vary based on practice.
