Special education is a broad term used by the law to describe specially designed instruction that meets the unique needs of a child who has a disability. These services are provided by the public school system and are free of charge. Learning disabilities cover a wide spectrum of disorders ranging from mild to severe. They can include mental, physical, behavioral and emotional disabilities.
Your child may be eligible for a scholarship under the Austism Scholarship Program or the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program to attend a special education program that implements the child's individualized education program and that is operated by an alternative public provider or by a registered private provider.
Information on scholarship programs are available from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) web site at www.education.ohio.gov .
