ABSENCE REPORTING PROCEDURES

Student Absences (as mandated by the Ohio Senate Missing Child Act)

In the event of a student's absence, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify the school.  Ohio attendance laws recognize the following reasons for excused absences:  Personal illness, family illness, death in the immediate family, death outside the immediate family (with permission from the Principal).  Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule family vacations at times so as not to interfere with the adopted school calendar.  If there is no alternative to a family's scheduled vacation, the school Principal may honor the request based on the following criteria:  The vacation will not require the student to miss more than five (5) school days; The student's record of prior absences for the current school year is within the Attendance Policy; The request for vacation must be submitted by the parent/guardian at least ten (10) days prior to the first day of absence.

A call to the respective school office should be made on the day of the absence.  Upon returning to school, please present to your child's teacher a written excuse, dated and signed by a parent/guardian stating the reason for being absent.
