Certifications/Requirements

Want to be a Coach? Interested in helping out with a program? Below are the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) requirements in order to become a paid or volunteer coach in the State of Ohio. These certifications/requirements should be on file in the district office prior to coaching or volunteering for any sports program.
 
Required Credentials

BCII/FBI Background Check (Trumbull County Educational Service Center)
BCII/FBI background check can be obtained at the TCESC in Niles, OH. 
Please make an appointment by calling (330) 505-2800.

You will need the following items in order to complete the electronic Ohio BCII or FBI WebCheck:
A photo ID such as a driver’s license.
A money order for the proper amount as detailed below. Money orders are available at Marc’s, which is located in the same plaza as TCESC.

Fees
Individuals who are having the WebCheck done as a requirement to work or volunteer in a school district must bring money order for: 
$30 Ohio BCII.
$30 FBI.
$60 Ohio BCII & FBI.

Any individual who is not associated with a school district must bring a money order for: 
$50 Ohio BCII.
$50 FBI.
$100 Ohio BCII & FBI.

Fundamentals of Coaching http://www.nfhslearn.com/
Fundamentals of Coaching Certification can be completed at the NFHS Learn website.
One-time training 
Approx. 4-5 hours
Cost: $65 
 
Concussion in Sports http://www.nfhslearn.com/
Concussion Certification can be completed at the NFHS Learn website.
Approx. 30 mins.
Cost: FREE

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Class
Fulfill this requirement through a course approved by the district.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest https://safe.ode.state.oh.us/portal
NEW! Lindsay’s Law – Sudden Cardiac Arrest training is found through the Learning Management System in your ODE – SAFE Account.

Pupil Activity Permit https://safe.ode.state.oh.us/portal
Application for your PAP can be submitted through your ODE – SAFE Account.
Will be approved AFTER all other requirements have been fulfilled.
